You'll shoot your eye out! (Day 13)

Countdown to Christmas Day 13

We watched my absolute favorite Christmas movie tonight, 'A Christmas Story' The 1983 classic set in 1940's America is one of the best Christmas memories from my childhood. We used to watch it every year and it's a tradition I still keep. Directed by Bob Clarke and based upon the book of short stories 'In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash' by  Jean Shepherd 'A Christmas Story' is about Ralphie, a nine year old boy with only one thing on his Christmas list: A Red Ryder Carbon-Action 200 Shot Air Rifle! With his parents unwilling to buy him a BB gun because he might "shoot his eye out" Ralphie decides to mount a full scale, hint-dropping, Santa-begging campaign.

We also watched this! Dr. Seuss' 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas', the Chuck Jones animated special from 1966. It is a true classic and in my opinion one of the few movie adaptions that manages to equal the magic of the book from which it stems!

"Every Who down in Whoville liked Christmas a lot, but the Grinch, who lived just north of Whoville - did not. The Grinch hated Christmas - the whole Christmas season. Now, please don't ask why; no one quite knows the reason. It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight. Or it could be that his head wasn't screwed on just right. But I think that the most likely reason of all may have been that his heart was two sizes too small...."
